Germany Lotto 6 aus 49 Introduction

The Germans are active participants in some of the biggest lotteries in Europe. Along with Finland they are the biggest players of the Eurojackpot and have won a dominant share of jackpots over the years. It’s fair to say that the Germans love their lotteries, and this is also evidenced by their own national lottery setup, of which the German National Lottery 6 aus 49 is the shining star.

This lottery has been around since 1955 and has created a number of millionaires in that time. The Germany Lotto is better known by the official name Lotto 6 aus 49, which translates to “6 from 49”, and refers to how the game is played. See How to Play Germany Lotto 6 aus 49 to learn more.

How to Play Lotto 6 aus 49

The Lotto 6 aus 49 costs just €1.00 to play on the Multilotto website. It consists of 6 numbers from 1 to 49 (ergo “6 Aus 49”) and 1 bonus number from 1 to 9. If you match all of these then you win the jackpot, simple as that!

The Germany Lottery is drawn twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday evening at 6:25pm and 7:25pm respectively.

Jackpots and Records

If the Lotto 6 aus 49 jackpot is not won then it will rollover and this will continue to happen for 13 draws, after which the jackpot money will be shared between the winners of the next prize tier. There is a minimum jackpot of €1 million, but there is no maximum limit, only a maximum number of times that it can rollover.

The largest ever 6 aus 49 jackpot was €45.4 million and this was shared between three lucky ticket holders in December of 2007. The jackpot is always shared if there are multiple winners, but the same does not apply to all other prize tiers, which are paid out in full to every ticket holder.

The odds of winning the jackpot on the Lotto 6 aus 49 are 1 in 139 million, which are the same odds as the EuroMillions. The second highest prize returns odds of 1 in 15.5 million, and the odds of winning the smallest prize are 1 in 76.
