€500.000 lottery prize collected by a kind-hearted Irish couple

Major lotto winners usually decide to pay off their debts or buy a new home, but some of them choose to make the needs of those less fortunate their main priority. That’s exactly what one couple from Ireland intends to do after collecting their  €500.000 pay-out – they’ll donate some of the money to a couple of local charities, which have been doing exceptional work in the past.

The anonymous winners from County Galway correctly guessed the numbers 4, 7, 28, 30, 37 and 40 in Ireland’s Lotto Plus 1 draw on September 27th. The quick pick that brought them the €500.000 fortune was purchased from the News & Views newsagents located on Bridge Street in the small town of Gort.

The couple discovered their ticket matched the winning numbers one day after the draw took place, and didn’t share any personal information with lottery officials after collecting the prize. They didn’t say anything about wanting to invest the money, buy a new home or go on a dream holiday, because their focus is on a nobler goal – assisting good causes in their local community.

“We are very lucky with our own situation at the moment. Thankfully we are incredibly happy and we have our health. We want this win to be life-changing so we are going to put this €500.000 to good use with donations to the Galway Hospice and Cancer Care West. Both charities provide a tremendous service to so many local families and we would be delighted to help in any way we can,” said the wife.
